Full Bio

Hello! My name is Michael Lovato (he/him/his) and I'm currently a Doctoral Student at the University of
New Mexico (UNM) in Counselor Education and Supervision. I graduated from UNM with my Masters in
Counseling focused on Clinical Mental Health Counseling.I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the State of New Mexico and also a National Certified Counselor (NCC).

My clinical experience/background is in anxiety, depression, LGBTQIA+ issues,
relationship problems, trauma, recovery, and prevention. My approach to therapy is rooted in Humanistic Counseling and Somatic Therapy I aim to create a safe and supportive space for clients, allowing them to be seen and heard, and fostering healing by connecting the mind and body. I strive to help my clients feel safe and understood during sessions, enabling them to be their most authentic selves. I support and guide clients as they become their own experts in their experiences, facilitating positive change.

Some fun facts about me! I am 3rd generation Mexican-American, cisgender man, and part of the
LGBTQIA+ community as a gay man. I am a food lover as I am also happy to try new places to expand my
food pallet along with having an active lifestyle. I also love attending music festivals when I get the
chance to do so. I am also committed to continuing my own personal growth and professional growth as
a counselor.
