About Leia

Picture
I know the idea of counseling can be overwhelming and even scary, but I also know working with the right counselor and processing through life’s challenges can be life changing.

I work hard to develop relationships with my clients so they become comfortable with counseling and see it as a tool they can use for the betterment of their mind, body, and spirit.

Full Bio

I am a native New Mexican, born and raised here in Albuquerque. After graduating from college (NMSU
– Go Aggies!), I lived in both Texas and California. While these were great experiences, I missed home and was thankful when my husband’s job brought us back to New Mexico. I attended UNM for both my counseling program and law school (Go Lobos!). I work as a school counselor and while I have done elementary and high school counseling, I currently work at a middle school in the metro area. Being a school counselor is fun, challenging, and feel like I learn something new every day from my amazing students.

When I am not in counselor mode, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I have three boys who keep me busy with their sports and activities, and I have my dog Charlie who loves going for walks and playing at the dog park. I love to read and am part of three book clubs! I am not a coffee drinker, but I enjoy a hot cup of tea (with milk and sugar) and one of my favorite places is the St. James Tea Room.

I use a client-centered approach when working with my clients. As we go through the counseling journey together, my hope is my clients will set goals, recognize their strengths, and feel empowered to utilize their strengths to reach those goals.
